This coming Saturday, May 16, 2015 is Kids to Parks Day! Childhood obesity has gone up as attendance in state parks has gone down. Kids to Parks Day is an initiative to encourage families to get out and get active with the kids.
Every state park in Virginia is participating with events for the kids to mark the occasion, including False Cape State Park, and First Landing State Park. Many other locations are having great outdoor events this weekend!
At First Landing: From 11am-2pm there will be kids activities, hikes, and animal encounters.
At False Cape: From 10am-3pm there will be fishing! Reservations are required: (757) 426-7128, cost is $10
National Kids to Parks Day at Sleepy Hole Park: From 2-3pm take a short guided hike on one of the nature trails.
“Ready, Set, Wear It!” Life Jacket World Record Day at Vinings Landing Marina
No need to attend one of these events to participate in the spirit of Kids to Parks Day....choose your favorite park and head out to play! To take the official "Kids to Parks" pledge click HERE.
