Washed Ashore: Ocean Awareness Through Art, June 7 - September 28
The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center will be the first venue on the East Coast to host Washed Ashore: Ocean Awareness Through Art. This exhibit which runs from June 7 – September 28, uses giant sea life sculptures made entirely of marine debris collected from beaches to graphically illustrate the tragedy of pollution in our oceans.
“Lidia,” a 10 ft. tall seal sculpture will greet visitors near the Aquarium’s outdoor seal exhibit and entice visitors to see the remaining 13 sculptures, mostly located in the changing exhibit gallery. Along with unique art pieces, the exhibition includes educational signage and programs that encourage reducing, refusing, reusing and recycling. The exhibit is free with Aquarium admission thanks to the sponsorship of the Lee A. and Helen Gifford Foundation, The Oceanfront Inn, and TFC Recycling/Recycling Perks.

Get ready to soar with Eagle and the Space Racers! Join Eagle and his friends at Stardust Space Academy for a hands-on mission with the new exhibit Space Racers: Adventures in Space Exploration. Based on the new animated children's television show Space Racers, now broadcasting on US public television, this new interactive exhibit is for young children to explore the wonders of space together in a fun and creative atmosphere.
Join Eagle and his friends as they guide you through the solar system and beyond, encouraging pretend, play and space exploration! Discover cool space facts, build a rocket, learn about space food, exercise like an astronaut, and sleep on a wall! Suit up in a spacesuit, explore the moon's surface, and learn about gravity as you manipulate the lunar rover. Track a space mission from mission control and investigate the starry night sky.

The Chrysler celebrates seven decades of an American icon—Smokey Bear, the well-known spokesbruin of the United States Forest Service.
A Virginia artist, Rudy Wendelin of Arlington, depicted the friendly firefighting bear with the ranger hat and shovel for four decades, and is often credited with immortalizing him in pop culture history.
This exhibition, which includes 19 Wendelin paintings of Smokey Bear, is organized by the Virginia Department of Forestry to celebrate its 100th anniversary. It includes artwork on loan from the National Agricultural Library, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Bring your bikes, helmets and family or friends out to Norfolk Botanical Garden and pedal through the petals.
Norfolk Botanical Garden is home to 12 miles of pedestrian pathways. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 4 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. they are open to bikers! Regular Garden admission applies
Rules for Riding
1.Children under 16 must ride with a parent or adult.
2.Bike riders under 14 must wear helmets. (City Code Section 25-388)
3.If you meet a tram or other vehicle, please stop or slow down and move to the side of the path. Trams cannot back up.
4.Please stay on paved paths.
5.Bike riders are not permitted on the berm path going up to the airport overlook
6.Bike riders are not permitted in the World of Wonders: A Children’s Adventure Garden
7.Bike Nights are for bikes only. No scooters, skates, skateboards or other vehicles.
8.Garden security will patrol the Garden throughout the evening. If you need help, please flag the security truck.

Parents and educators will learn seven important powers necessary to connect with children in meaningful ways and create a home or classroom environment that teaches respect and cooperation. Learn about the powers of perception, unity, attention, free will, love, acceptance and intention and how they can powerfully impact your relationships with children.
This is a Parent Academy offering. You are registering for the series. Classes are Monday September 15, 22, 29 and October 6. Attend all 4 classes in the series and you will be recognized as a CHKD Parent Academy Graduate.
